Los Angeles SEO: On Page & Off Page SEO
- Meta titles and description
- Write pages and posts surrounding your keywords
- Sign up for Google My Business (GMB)
- Local directories and citations
On page SEO:
Make sure your meta titles and descriptions are compelling, I’ve mentioned this time and time again. You need to stand out from all the other articles that target your keywords. Try not to go with the competition this time and write something that will stand out from the rest of the articles starting with the exact same keywords.
For instance, for plumbers in Los Angeles, CA go with Los Angeles Plumbers – How to fix most frequent plumbing problems in Los Angeles, CA. That would be a good first start when trying to compete for that particular city along with the keyword plumber. Or Los Angeles Florist – Most popular flowers sold in Los Angeles, CA. You get the point.
And then change the articles up for different cities you plan on targeting for your services or products. Like Thousand Oaks Florist – Best plant care guide for flowers in Thousand Oaks, CA. In other words, avoid duplicate content.
This is probably one the most difficult tasks of on page seo but one of the most important. In fact, all of these strategies listed are pretty important. But, if you don’t get this one right, well then, it’s just downhill from there. Writing about your services and including your targeted city is difficult because you can’t make it seem like a landing page. You could have done this back in 2013, but now your website can get marked as spam. Which is a bummer because I found a pretty cool landing page too.
To make sure your not seeming spammy, all of your pages and posts can’t be about the exact same thing otherwise you’ll get penalized for duplicate content. Don’t go with Los Angeles Plumbers – How to fix most frequent plumbing problems in Los Angeles, CA and then go with the exact same thing for another city. Like Santa Barbara Plumbers – How to fix most frequent plumbing problems in Santa Barbara, CA. Unless you plan on changing the content quite a bit.
Off page SEO:
An important step and just about the first thing you should do is claim your business with Google. Here you can optimize your listing as much as possible by providing as much information as Google asks you. Including photos and videos of your business and certainly don’t forget to add your website. GMB is an important first step in getting your website ranked on Google’s search engine along with submitting your website to local directiories.
Submitting your site to local directories can improve your search engine ranking for your targeted keywords. Even if there is no link back to you website and your business is listed, that’s considered a citation. And guess what, citations count.
For a list of directories you can submit your website to check out Moz Local. You can even get a free analysis of your website to make sure your customers are finding you online.
